ABE and ESL courses offered in Curry CountyCurry County students looking to improve their reading, writing and math skills or non-native speakers needing to learn English have opportunities to brush up on their skills at Southwestern Oregon Community College. The Adult Basic Education program provides an open-entry course in which students will study basic skills in written communication, mathematics and reading comprehension. Emphasis is placed on the necessary skills to pass the five General Education Development tests and to be successful in college and at work. Cost of the 11-week program is $25, and it will be offered the following locations and times throughout Winter Term, which begins Jan. 8: Port Orford Zion Lutheran Church, 5 to 8 p.m. on Mondays; English as a Second Language courses also are scheduled for the 11-week Winter Term. This course, designed for students whose first language is not English, costs $25 and will be offered the following locations and times: Southwestern Gold Beach Center, 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays; and Pre-registration is required.
