Southwestern offers college preparation course

The Southwestern Oregon Community College Adult Learning Skills Program is offering a free open-enrollment class Winter Term to help students win the game of college.

Beginning Jan. 8, the college is offering HD050 College Transitions, a course designed to improve students’ chances for college success. Students will learn to create personal and academic plans, maintain motivation, form support systems, manage time and explore college options. The following sessions are available to help students gain skills in specific college skills:

  • College Vocabulary;
  • Learning Processes;
  • Maintaining Motivation;
  • Managing Stress;
  • Creating Support Systems;
  • Time Management;
  • Academic Planning;
  • Utilizing Academic Advisors;
  • Using the Catalog;
  • College Resources;
  • Student Survival Guide;
  • Adapting and Adjusting to College; and
  • Choosing a Major.

Class is scheduled from 9 to 9:50 a.m. Monday through Thursday at Southwestern’s Coos Bay campus. For more information, those interested can contact the Southwestern Adult Learning Skills Program in the Newmark Center, Room 201, or by phone at 888-7116.
