Southwestern offers computer classes in Curry CountySouthwestern Oregon Community College will be offering a series of computer courses for users of various skill levels in Curry County during Winter Term. The Basic Computers course is designed to take the mystery out of computer use for beginners. Students will learn the hardware and software, as well as how to make them work. Participants will learn to create documents, calculate figures, send e-mail and explore the Internet. This 11-week class starts Jan. 8, scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays at the Southwestern Gold Beach Center. Cost is $34. Intro to Microcomputers covers the Microsoft Office Suite programs including Word, Access, Excel and Office. Students can learn at their own pace with a structured curriculum and instructor support in this lab setting. Each of these applications offers unique tools to the business world. Participants must have basic Windows experience and keyboarding skills. This 11-week lab meets from 5:30 to 8:20 p.m. on Thursdays at the Southwestern Gold Beach Center. The four classes that make up this lab are priced individually at $34. In the 11-week Web Design class, students will gain the tools and techniques necessary to create a presence on the Internet by constructing a Web site. Students will become familiar with Microsoft’s new html editor Expressions, as well as blogs, images, search engines, content optimization and the use of online tools. Class meets from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays at the Gold Beach Center. Cost is $34. Spreadsheet/Word Processing Application is part of the Business Lab offered from 5:30 to 8:20 p.m. on Thursday nights. These two-credit courses are offered for $244 each. Individuals can take the courses without credit for personal interest can do so for $151 each. Spreadsheet students will learn about Microsoft Excel workbooks and worksheets, how to enter and manage data and how to edit cells. Word Processing students will be introduced to the concepts, terminology and application of word processing technology at a professional level. Pre-registration is required for all courses.
