Southwestern hosts fabric painting workshop

Billie RuthSouthwestern Oregon Community College is planning a three-week workshop starting later this month designed to help individuals release their inner artists in Curry County.

Breathing Through Walls is a fabric painting “playshop” – instructed by Billie Ruth, who has been teaching silk and fabric painting for more than 10 years in Caifornia, Hawaii and Colorado – consisting of three hands-on, two-hour sessions. Participants will learn to sweep with smooth moves to music, then dash, dab, dot and dabble fabric paint onto a 12-inch Mandala of their own creation. Students will learn to write Japanese Haiku and paint Kanji symbols on clothing, and those who wish to paint on personal clothing items can bring them to the second and third sessions.

The workshop is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on three consecutive Saturdays, starting Jan. 27. The $55 registration fee covers materials. For more information or to register, those interested can call the Southwestern Brookings Center at (541) 469-5017 or the Gold Beach Center at (541) 247-2741.
