Southwestern offers GIS Web site course in Curry County

Curry County recently launched a Geographical Information Systems Web site for public use, and Southwestern Oregon Community College is offering training for individuals to learn how to use it.

Intro to GIS Web Sites covers using the new Curry County GIS Web site to locate map tax lot boundaries, aerial photos, assessment information and print maps from home computers. GIS is becoming an increasingly popular way to record information and organize work flows. The county’s GIS Web site is the result of a year-long collaboration spearheaded by the Assessor’s Office to make the best use of funds and information to create and maintain one data set for use by Curry County Enterprise GIS partners including the cities of Port Orford, Gold Beach and Brookings; the Curry Wildlife Preparation Team; and the South Coast Watershed Council.

This class is free and available at the following locations and times:

  • Pacific High School in Port Orford on Tuesday, Feb. 13, time TBA;
  • Southwestern Gold Beach Center on Tuesday, Feb. 6, from 3 to 4:50 or 6 to 7:50 p.m.; and
