Southwestern to offer photography courses in Curry County

For those interested in digital photography and related computer applications, Southwestern Oregon Community College is offering courses in Curry County.

Whether for work or pleasure, there is a growing need to digitize photos, negatives and slides for sharing on the Internet or for use in presentations and publications. Scanning and Archiving Prints, Slides and Negatives will cover how to use flatbed, slide and negative scanners to digitalize photos and set up a manageable file system for archiving and retrieving image files. This class is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Southwestern Gold Beach Center with additional sessions to be arranged individually. Cost is $25.

For those getting started in the fascinating world of digital photography, the Digital Imaging/Camera course – set to begin Jan. 8 – explores how to use digital cameras and how to share pictures around the world. The introductory course includes an introduction to Photoshop Elements, a tool used to format and edit images from digital cameras or digitally scanned photographs. Students should bring their cameras and instruction manuals to the class, and should have basic Windows experience. The 11-week class is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Gold Beach Center. Cost is $34.
