RSVP plans social event for Baby Boomers

The Southwestern Oregon Community College Coos County Retired and Senior Volunteers Program is recruiting Baby Boomers – specifically those 55 to 65 years old – for local volunteer community service.

Its kick-off Baby Boomer Outreach Event – Spring Fling – is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 27, at Oregon Coast Culinary Institute on the Southwestern campus in Coos Bay. Admission to the event is free, and appetizers, desserts and coffee will be served. There also will be a no-host bar, along with music and dancing and several door prizes.

The goal of the Spring Fling event is to provide a fun social activity to attract Boomers, then provide them with more information about the Baby Boomer Project. Participants will be asked to complete community assessment surveys to assist in creating volunteer opportunities that will appeal to Boomers.

Americorps VISTA volunteer coordinator Suzan Beyer and the “Boomers and Shakers” Baby Boomer Focus Group are spearheading this effort to attract Boomer volunteers to RSVP. For more information, those interested can contact Beyer by stopping by her office in the Newmark Center, 2110 Newmark Ave., Room 220, in Coos Bay; e-mailing sbeyer@socc.edu; or calling (541) 888-7332.
