Southwestern to honor veteran players for contributionsSouthwestern Oregon Community College will honor its sophomore men’s basketball players before the Lakers’ final home game of the season, against Linn Benton at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21. Southwestern will honor Brad Hanson and Everett Smith, and both will be thanked for their hard work and commitment to the men’s basketball team and the College. They, in turn, will honor the Southwestern faculty and staff members who have had major influences on them during their time here. Hanson will show his appreciation for history and political science instructor Fred Brick and Smith will honor Shawn Liggett from the Student First Stop and Sharon Miller, tutoring lab instructor. Hanson is a sophomore guard from Henley High School in Klamath Falls. He is a team co-captain averaging seven points per game and shooting over 40 percent from behind the 3-point line. Hanson also is a resident assistant in student housing, maintains a 3.5 grade-point average and will graduate with his block transfer degree at the end of Winter Term. Smith is a sophomore forward from Chapel Hill High School in Atlanta. He also is a co-captain and is averaging 17 points per game along with seven rebounds. He completed an internship with the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon and will graduate with his block transfer degree at the end of Spring Term. Press Release Date: February 9, 2007
