Southwestern gears up for annual Career and Job Expo

Southwestern Oregon Community College will be hosting its annual Career and Job Expo from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 18 at the brand-new Rec Center on the College’s Coos Bay campus.

The event – one of the biggest career fairs on the coast – is an opportunity for job seekers and those preparing to enter the workforce to see the types of employment available and learn about the skills employers are seeking. Speakers will provide information on myriad topics relating to careers, and those interested should be prepared for possible job interviews.

Last year 65 exhibitors and businesses participated and more than 800 individuals attended. This year’s event promises to be even bigger. To get the most out of the Career and Job Expo, participants should dress in standard business attire; bring several résumés; be confident; use solid communication skills; be polite and enthusiastic; greet each employer with a firm handshake; ask knowledgeable questions; be prepared to answer questions; get business cards of company representatives; use good eye contact; and inquire how to follow up.

For more information or to reserve a space and participate, those interested can contact Catherine Hockman at 888-7408.
