The workshop is scheduled from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, April 23, in Lakeview E, F and G of Empire Hall on the College campus in Coos Bay. Miriam Carver is a Policy Governance author and consultant. She and her husband, Dr. John Carver, have co-authored Reinventing Your Board: A Step by Step Guide to Implementing Policy Governance, as well as several booklets. She currently is co-editor of the bi-monthly publication Board Leadership: Policy Governance in Action. Carver was born in England, where she received most of her formal training. In her 20s she moved to Canada, where she completed her master’s degree studies and worked in nonprofit organizations of various kinds.

After serving as executive director of Canada’s first AIDS hospice and also of a federation of counseling agencies, Carver opened her governance consulting practice in the early 1990s. Since then, she has consulted with boards of directors in the United States, Canada, Columbia, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Thailand and Malaysia. Her clients include boards of non-profit, for profit, cooperative and governmental systems of all sorts. She also trains consultants in the theory and application of Policy Governance in the Policy Governance Academy.

This workshop is particularly helpful to those affiliated with city councils, school boards and other non-profit, for profit and government organizations guided by board policy. Cost of the workshop is $150 per person – which covers food for the workshop sessions – and participants are asked to register by April 11. To register, those interested can contact the Southwestern Business Development Center at 756-6778.
