Southwestern gains official TOEFL exam site approval

Southwestern Oregon Community College has become an official testing site for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

International students who wish to attend American universities must pass the TOEFL with minimum scores designated by individual institutions, which usually is at least 600. With Southwestern registered as an approved TOEFL test site, international students in local high schools and those who attend the Southwestern English Language Institute – an intensive English language program to be unveiled this spring – will have the opportunity to take the test while they’re in the country.

“Local exchange students can make use of the testing opportunity because they have to submit test scores with their university applications,” Southwestern Adult Learning Skills Program Director Hannah Abraham-Shea said. “Students wanting to attend American universities can sit for the TOEFL here, then go home and apply to universities.”

The first of the monthly test dates is planned for April 28. To register for the TOEFL, students must do so online at http://www.ets.org. Test times and dates are given when students register for the exam.
