IBL’S HIGH OCTANE BRAND OF PRO BASKETBALL TO VISIT COOS BAY

IBLCoos Bay, OR—The International Basketball League will make a stop in Coos Bay with a Tuesday, April 29, game featuring the Portland Chinooks vs. the Central Oregon Hotshots, and a second game on Wednesday, April 30, where the Chinooks will take on the Shanxi Kylins — a Chinese professional team from the same league that produced Yao Ming.

Both games are at Prosper Hall on the campus of Southwestern Oregon Community College, 1988 Newmark, in Coos Bay and tip off at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door at the following prices: $10 for adults; $5 for youth (17 & under); $5 for seniors (55 & over); and $5 for students with college I.D. card. Fans are also welcome to use a credit card to reserve a seat by calling (866) IBL-GAME.

Basketball fans should not miss this opportunity to catch these teams in action, as Pro BasketballPortland will feature one of the most talented line-ups outside the NBA in 2008 – including seven players who have earned IBL All-Star honors in the past. Portland should score in bunches, as the two top scorers in the league in 2007 will suit up for the Chinooks this season: David Lucas, a two-time All PAC-10 selection for the Oregon State Beavers, led the IBL with an average of 36.5 ppg for the Chinooks last year. New addition DaJuan Tate was not far behind – averaging 35.6 ppg for the Las Vegas Stars. Tate, at 6 feet, 5 inches, is a gifted athlete and legitimate NBA prospect.

God Shammgod returns to the Chinooks this season. The 6-foot-1 Shammgod was the Chinooks’ second leading scorer in ’07 at 24.7 ppg. Shammgod was drafted by the Washington Wizards in 1997 following his sophomore season at Providence College. Shammgod broke the Big East single season assist record as a freshman, and led the Friars to the Elite 8 as a sophomore.

Chinooks shooting guard 6-foot-5 David Jackson was born in Klamath Falls, attended Wilson High School in Portland and finished his collegiate career at the University of Oregon. Jackson scored 23.1 points per game for the Chinooks last season. A veteran of NBA camps (Portland and Cleveland) and NBA summer league teams (Portland, San Antonio, Orlando and Seattle), Jackson also has extensive experience overseas in Italy, China, Spain and Turkey.

The Hotshots will be potent on offense as well. Central Oregon led the league in scoring in ’07 (146.8) points per game and will feature the same wide-open style this season — but with a much more talented roster. Two time IBL All-Star point guard Arthur Lewis is back, along with dynamic wings Terry Horton and Cliff White. Phillip Freeman, at 6 feet, 11 inches, will anchor the middle for the Hotshots, while stretching defenses with his 3-point shooting.

The Hotshots have added three IBL All-Stars to the 2008 roster. Jeff Dunn, at 6 feet, 5 inches, is a two-time All-Star selection, and one of the finest pure shooters in minor-league basketball. Chucky Frierson and Jamal Walker come to Central Oregon after being named to the 2007 IBL All-Star team as members of the Lewis County Raptors, and are tremendous athletes — well suited for the Hotshots’ up-tempo style.
