Southwestern readies for Celebration of the ArtsThe visual arts and literature will be featured during the Southwestern Oregon Community College Celebration of the Arts from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday in Eden Hall on the Coos Bay campus. The annual Student Art Exhibit – the culmination of the academic year in the Southwestern Art Department – will be on display in the Eden Hall Fine Art Gallery. The exhibit showcases students’ work in a variety of media and includes many extraordinary pieces that demonstrate the unique learning environment of the College art classes. Area residents and established artists comprise a significant portion of each class, and their work contributes to a rich and varied visual experience. This exhibit will continue through June 7. A separate display of Cone 10 stoneware by students and faculty also will be available for purchase from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the ceramics lab in Eden Hall, Room 5. A literary performance also is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. in Eden Hall, Room 1. Sponsored by the Southwestern literary journal, The Beacon, local authors and students of the creative writing program will read selections from their works.
