College plans geology excursions in Curry County

Southwestern Oregon Community College is hosting three two-day geology classes this summer to explore the interesting geological history of Curry County, which features some of Oregon’s oldest and most varied rock formations.

Classes will be offered at each of Southwestern’s three Curry County outreach centers, and each will consist of a Friday night lecture from 6 to 9 p.m., followed by a Saturday field trip from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Southwestern faculty will guide a Marine Terraces tour June 22 and 23 in Port Orford, followed by River Geology on June 29 and 30 in Gold Beach and July 13 and 14 in Brookings. Participants should bring sack lunches, appropriate footwear and a desire to learn about Curry County’s natural history.

For more information or to register, those interested can call the Southwestern Brookings Center at (541) 469-5017 or Gold Beach Center at (541) 247-2741.
