Southwestern offers health and fitness opportunitiesCommunity members seeking to lead healthier lifestyles or improve their personal fitness can choose from a variety of Summer Term courses at Southwestern Oregon Community College to help. Those seeking to stay fit will have the opportunity to enroll in PE 185 Super Circuit – an exercise class where students log in and work out in the Rec Center at their convenience – or gain strength and improve fitness with PE 185 Weight Training, which meets from 4 to 4:50 p.m. on Monday through Thursday or 10 to 11:50 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Individuals seeking general education in lifetime personal wellness and nutrition can choose between HE 250 Personal Health, PE 231 Wellness for Life or FN 225 Nutrition. Personal Health, which is scheduled online or face-to-face from 2:30 to 3:50 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, deals with current health trends and issues including information on mental, emotional and social health; nutrition and weight management; physical condition and aging. Wellness for Life also is offered online or face-to-face from 6 to 8:50 p.m. on Wednesdays. This class covers techniques to assess strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health, as well as providing informational tools to facilitate positive change in people’s states of fitness. Nutrition is scheduled from noon to 1:50 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These courses range from one to four credits, and can be audited for no college credit at a reduced rate.
