Laker Club, Student Support Services host barbeque
While SSS staff members cooked up hamburgers and sausages, Laker Club members helped sign up new members. Laker Club President John Breuer gave a brief presentation on the alumni club, and the graduates were afforded the opportunity to sign up for the free organization, which is just over a year old. “We were pleased to have the opportunity to serve our students and help do something special for them before they leave Southwestern,” Southwestern Foundation Executive Director Marie Simonds said. “Now that they have completed their degree and certificate studies they are officially alumni, and we’d like to see that they participate in the Laker Club in order to maintain a life-long relationship with Southwestern.” The Laker Club, which began last spring, has expanded to nearly 600 members in its first year. All current and past students – regardless of the number of credits taken – are invited to participate in the club, which is free to all members and carries the benefit of invitations to College events, a quarterly e-newsletter and opportunities for networking and maintaining relationships with other students, as well as the College. Those who sign up before June 30 can obtain Charter Membership certificates for joining in the first year of the organization. Those who register after July 1 will receive a regular membership certificate for the free organization. Those interested in participating can contact the Southwestern Foundation Office at 888-7209, or by e-mail at lakerclub@socc.edu.
