Local students ‘gear up’ for college at Southwestern

Marshfield High School students have the opportunity this summer to prepare for college and earn $992 worth of tuition at Southwestern Oregon Community College during the Summer Gear Up Program.

The program, which began June 25 and continues through Aug. 2 on the Southwestern campus in Coos Bay, gives Marshfield students in ninth through 12th grades the opportunity to learn study skills, experience college life and improve math and writing skills. Students who successfully complete the six-week program will receive the $992 tuition waiver.

Admission to the program is free to eligible applicants and the deadline to enter is the end of this week. For more information and to sign up, those interested can contact Margallee James at 888-7103.
