Korean students visit Southwestern for ELI

Southwestern Oregon Community College is hosting 20 students and an advisor from Hyejeon College in South Korea for the English Language Institute.

The visit is a continued culmination of Sister College relationships between the two institutions. While at Southwestern the students will be taking part in intensive English language training while being immersed in United States culture.

Between classes the students will enjoy several regional excursions including trips to the Bandon cranberry bogs, the Newport aquarium and a charter boat trip provided by a local fisherman.

The students, who arrived last weekend, will be staying until Aug. 26 and a welcome reception is scheduled for community members at noon on Wednesday, July 9, at Oregon Coast Culinary Institute.

“Southwestern Oregon Community College is excited to welcome our visitors from Hyejeon College again this year. This year our guests are focusing their cultural excursions on South Coast industries,” Southwestern President Dr. Judith Hansen said. “We expect that they will have a wonderful experience here on the South Coast of Oregon and that it will be a worthwhile endeavor for them. We at Southwestern are working to continue building strong international connections to help our students and communities understand where we fit in the global economy.”
