Phlebotomy Technician program gets green lightThe Southwestern Oregon Community College Board of Education approved a new Phlebotomy Technician certificate program at its regular meeting on Monday night. The one-year program, designed with input from professional phlebotomists, prepares students for careers in the field working for hospitals, labs, clinics, long-term care facilities and other locations. The new program expands upon existing healthcare training opportunities already offered at Southwestern such as nursing and pharmacy technician. Phlebotomy is the art of drawing and transporting blood samples for laboratory use, and offering the program could open the door for future health care training opportunities and programming at Southwestern. The program now goes to the state for final approval and could start as soon as Fall Term 2008. Press Release Date: July 28, 2008
