College builds collaboration with Bay Area HospitalSouthwestern Oregon Community College is continuing to build strong partnerships with Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay. The hospital is providing funding and personnel necessary to fill an instructional vacancy in the Nursing Program. Qualified personnel from among the BAH nursing staff will teach nursing courses to insure Southwestern continues offering top-notch nurse training in the face of staffing shortages. Many institutions around the country are experiencing a shortage of nursing instructors, which leads to fewer available spots in nursing programs. The partnership with Bay Area Hospital will help Southwestern continue offering the same number of seats in the Nursing Program. Southwestern students already work extensively with Bay Area Hospital employees during clinical activities, and Interim Nursing Program Director Susan Walker expects that to continue. “Bay Area Hospital has been great,” she said. “They’ve been very supportive of us and our students. It has been a very good relationship.” Press Release Date: July 28, 2008
