Southwestern plans CNA II continued training options

Southwestern Oregon Community College is planning to begin offering Certified Nurse Assistant II training opportunities in Coos Bay.

The training builds upon what entry-level CNAs already have learned in their initial training. Those already holding CNA licensure can register for the eight-credit course, which comprises 131 total hours of training.

Two tracks allow students to pursue their interests. Bay Area Hospital is partnering with Southwestern to offer an Acute Care emphasis, and Southwestern is working with other long-term care facilities to offer a Long-Term Care option for further training.

The course could be offered as soon as Winter Term 2009, and must go through the Southwestern Board of Education and state approval process before it can be offered.
