Stay Informed with the SWOCC SAFE App

SWOCC SAFE is the College’s mobile app for students, employees and anyone who wants to stay informed of important safety information about our college. Overall, the app enhances the safety and well-being of our campuses:

  • Get alerts and push notifications of important information such as campus closures and possible security threats on campus.
  • Never walk alone! With the ‘Friend Walk’ feature, you can send your location directly to a friend or Campus Safety, allowing them to track your progress, ensure you reach your destination, or easily find you.
  • Quickly access safety resources including campus maps, emergency plans, and support resources such as advising and mental health counseling.
  • Easily report a safety concern to Campus Safety.

Please Note: If you are a student or an employee of the College, the SWOCC SAFE app does not replace the College’s RAVE alert system—it simply enhances it! All push notifications for RAVE alerts are sent directly through the SWOCC SAFE app. Please make sure your RAVE alert user information is up to date: 1) First log in to myLakerLink, then 2) Once you successfully logged in, click HERE to update your RAVE account and emergency contact information.

    Current Safety Information & Resources

    Annual Security/Fire Safety Report (Clery)

This security report is required by federal law and contains policy statements and crime statistics for the Coos Bay and Brookings campuses. The security report addresses the college’s policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security. Three years worth of statistics are included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus and property owned or controlled by the college and on public property within or immediately adjacent to campus. Statistics are tabulated from information compiled by the Campus Safety Office and information received from state and local law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction in areas where the college has a presence. For a hard copy of the report, please contact the Director of Emergency Management at 541-888-1623.

    CLERY REPORT

    Campus Crime

All community members, students, faculty, staff and crime victims and witnesses are strongly encouraged to immediately report crimes and campus safety related incidents occurring on property owned, leased, or otherwise controlled by SWOCC to Southwestern Campus Safety and the appropriate local law enforcement agency depending on where the crime/incident occurs. Prompt reporting will assure timely warning notices on campus and timely disclosure of crime statistics. To report an emergency, you may contact Campus Safety at 541-297-4200 or use one of the black emergency phones located in buildings throughout campus, which will connect you to Campus Safety directly. At least one Campus Safety Officer is on campus 7 days a week, 24 hours per day. After receiving your call, Campus Safety will take the necessary action required to respond to the specific situation such as calling police, fire, or ambulance. All information of criminal actions will be forwarded to Coos Bay, Brookings, or any other appropriate local Police Department depending on the location of the crime. For emergencies, Coos Bay or Brookings Police may be reached at 9-1-1.

To report a non-emergency security or public safety related matter, call Campus Safety at 541-297-4200 or Coos Bay Police at 541-269-8911. Brookings Police may be reached at 541-469-3118 for non-emergencies.

    Sex Offenses:

If a sex offense occurs (including rape, acquaintance rape, and forcible/non-forcible offenses) the victim shall immediately report the offense to the Director of Campus Safety, or a Campus Safety Officer. College employees are required to notify these authorities of sex offenses. It is imperative that evidence be preserved for prosecution of criminal offenses. Information about procedures for preservation of evidence are available from Campus Safety, Coos Bay Police Department, Bay Area Hospital, Women’s Crisis Service, and the Coos County District Attorney’s office.

If an offense occurs, services available for victims include counseling (Southwestern counselors and community professionals) and Women’s Crisis Service in North Bend. The College will provide assistance in changing a victim’s academic, living (if victim lives in Student Housing), transportation, and working situations, if requested by the victim and if accommodations are reasonably available. Options could include enrollment in a different section of a class, withdrawal without penalty, or other reasonable accommodations.

In cases of alleged sexual offenses, both accuser and accused are entitled to have others present during any disciplinary proceeding. Both accuser and accused will be informed of the outcome of any campus disciplinary proceeding brought alleging a sexual assault. Sanctions the institution may impose following a final determination of any institutional disciplinary proceeding regarding rape, acquaintance rape, and forcible and non-forcible sex offenses are detailed in the Student Conduct Code and Work Standard.

For the purpose of Campus Safety policies, some types of criminal actions occurring on campus property will be investigated by the College’s Campus Safety Department and the Coos Bay Police department jointly, including sex offenses. The College collects and discloses all information in accordance with federal law.

In addition to the annual statistical disclosure, the College makes timely reports to the campus community on crimes reported to the Campus Safety Department, the Office of Administrative Services, and local law/police agencies that are considered to be a threat to other students and employees. This is done to aid in the prevention of similar crimes. To report a crime, contact campus Campus Safety at 541-297-4200 or complete a College Incident Report.
Incident Report forms are available from the offices of Campus Safety, Facilities Services, and Administrative Services, or Student Housing.
