Academic Advising

Academic advising is available at the Curry Campus and via Skype or Zoom with an academic advisor or faculty advisors. Computer Labs

SWOCC has a computer lab available for student use at the Curry Campus in Brookings..

Counseling and Career Planning

A counselor visits the Curry Campus, Gold Beach Center and Port Orford office once a month to meet with current students free of charge. SWOCC counselors can help students experiencing problems that are preventing them from being successful in school (for example, test anxiety, stress over course work, relationship concerns, depression, etc.) Counselors can also help with career counseling and goal setting. Tools at the Career Center can help you make key decisions whether you’re deciding on a degree, looking for an internship, or preparing for job search. Spend some time exploring, learning about yourself and all the great resources at your fingertips!

Disability Services

All SWOCC campuses provide reasonable and appropriate accommodations to students with known disabilities. The Director of Disability Services travels to Curry County once a month. Financial Aid Counseling

Staff at the Curry First Stop Center can help students with financial aid forms. Coos Campus Financial Aid counselors are available via phone at 541.888.7352 or email at fao@socc.edu. More detailed information is available on the Financial Aid site.

Writing Services for Students: 

Our goal is to support students in all facets of the writing process and to help students become confident, independent writers. We assist student with the following: how to understand a writing assignment; develop, focus, and organize ideas; create coherent paragraphs; integrate and document research; and find and fix grammatical errors. 

Writing Resources:

Testing

Placement testing in reading, writing, and math is available at the Curry Campus Testing Center Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Test proctoring for students taking online or in-person classes is available by arrangement. Please call 541 813-1667 or email curryfirststop@socc.edu for instructions.

Proctoring is also available for students from outside colleges or organizations for a $20.00 per term fee.

Transfer and Distance Advising (University Center)

An advisor from the Southwestern Oregon University Center in Coos Bay is available once a month to meet with students from Bandon down to Brookings. The advisor can help students who are interested in transferring or who are pursuing distance degrees while living on the South Coast.

Tutoring Services for Students

If you’re struggling with a class—don’t give up! Our tutors are here to help you get through the quarter successfully. You can do this! We are here to help you. We have free Skype tutoring available, connecting to the Tutoring Lab on the Coos Campus, as well as free writing services.

 

Associated Student Government and Student Activities 

Associated Student Government
The Associated Student Government of Southwestern Oregon Community College (ASG) is a recognized platform for student governance and the development of leadership. Curry has a part-time Student ASG Director position. The Curry ASG Director collaborates with the Coos Campus ASG Directors.The Curry ASG Director receives a half-time tuition waiver.

Student Ambassador
The Curry Student Ambassador works to increase enrollment efforts through recruitment opportunities including: campus tours, calling campaigns, high school outreach and recruitment, community building, and other special events.The Student Ambassador receives a tuition waiver.

Student Event Programmer
The Curry Student Event Programmer assists staff with events plans and puts on events and activities in Curry County for students. The Events Programmer receives a full or half-time tuition waiver, depending on the number of hours scheduled to work.
